  19. Subject: Removing The OCR Feature In WinFax PRO
  20.  
  21. Situation:
  22. ==========
  23. You do not have enough memory or available disk space to run optical 
  24. character recognition (OCR) in WinFax PRO, so you want to remove the 
  25. OCR feature.
  26.  
  27. Solution:
  28. =========
  29. Perform the following procedure to remove the WinFax PRO OCR feature.
  30.  
  31. 1.  Make sure that WinFax PRO is not running.
  32.  
  33. 2.  Using the Windows File Manager, or the DEL command in DOS, delete 
  34.     the following OCR files from the directory where WinFax is installed.
  35.  
  36.     CONFUSE.SET         OMNIPAGE.SET
  37.     DCEB.FMD            OP.EXE  
  38.     DCONFUSE.SET        OPSPELL.DLL
  39.     DLL.LST             SCANMNGR.LST
  40.     IOLIB.DLL           TRIGRAMI.DAT
  41.     LASTSCAN.ZIP        UKENG.MD *
  42.     NNLOG_I.DAT         USENG.MD
  43.     OCR32.DLL           USER.UD
  44.     OCRNN.PLX           WFWLIB.DLL
  45.  
  46.     * The file UKENG.MD may not be included with earlier WinFax PRO 3.0 
  47.       releases.

  49. 3.  In addition, delete the following files, but only If you are certain 
  50.     not to re-install the OCR feature at a later time.
  51.  
  52.     OCRLINK.DLL    
  53.     OMNISCAN.DLL
  54.     OPSPELL.SET 
  55.  
  56.     These files cannot be re-installed through a custom installation 
  57.     (a full installation is required).
  58.  
  59. 4.  Delete the [AnyFax] section of your WIN.INI file, which is usually 
  60.     located in your Windows directory (for example C:\WINDOWS).
  61.  
  62.     a)  If you run Windows 3.1, open the Sysedit (System Editor) 
  63.         application in Program Manager to edit the WIN.INI file. Save 
  64.         your modified WIN.INI and exit Sysedit.
  65.  
  66.     b)  If you run Windows 3.0, open and edit the WIN.INI file in 
  67.         Windows Notepad, or any other basic text editor. Save your 
  68.         modified WIN.INI and exit the text editor.
  69.  
  70. 5.  Exit and restart Windows so the changes to your WIN.INI can take 
  71.     effect.
  72.  
  73. Notes:  After removing the OCR feature, the Recognize menu in the 
  74.         WinFax PRO Viewer is inactive. The Recognize command in the 
  75.         Receive Setup dialog is also inactive.
  76.  
  77.         If you decide to reinstall OCR, see the procedure for Adding 
  78.         Options After Installation in Chapter 2 of the WinFax PRO User's 
  79.         Guide. Remember to deselect all custom installation options 
  80.         other than OCR.

  82.         For more information on editing Windows initialization files, 
  83.         see WININI.WRI in Windows 3.1, or WININI.TXT in Windows 3.0 
  84.         (these files are found in the Windows directory).
